Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology 101 for Young Scholars ages 8-12
Come explore how the human body works from the cellular level to the organs!
This is a self-paced course that starts the moment you purchase it.
This course is designed to give each scholar an overview of each major body system that will introduce and explain the organs and terminology associated with that system.
To reinforce and strengthen each scholar’s understanding of the information, a variety of activities, investigations, observations, and demonstrations will be shared each week via our virtual meeting sessions and pre-made videos. Some of these projects will require few materials along with easy to follow directions.
If you don’t have access to the materials, there will be some modifications made accordingly. You will be provided with a workbook for each module, which will include science experiments along with all of the resources you need while learning about the basic fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology in a FUN and INTERACTIVE WAY.
Here's one example of an experiment Professor T.K. the Chemist will share during the Anatomy and Physiology Course! How are viruses and bacteria spread? How can we detect them?
In this self-paced course, you will be provided with weekly modules of in-depth information based upon a variety of topics ranging from basic medical terminology to looking at different cells under the microscope. We will provide you with ancillary resources to expand your child’s knowledge base on the topic of anatomy and physiology.
We will also cover topics such as:
- Medical Terminology
- Historical Scientific Figures that contributed to medicine
- The Skeletal System: Bones
- The Anatomy and Chemistry of Blood
- The Circulatory System: Matters of the Heart
- DNA Experiments
- Analyze various cells under the microscope
- The Digestive System: You are what you eat
- The Respiratory System: Inhale Exhale
And so much more!
Professor Tabelech “T.K. the Chemist” Shipp holds a Master of Life Science with dual concentrations in biology and chemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Bachelor of Science in Professional Chemistry from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. As an educator with 30 years of combined teaching and educational experience, Professor “T.K. the Chemist” passion for science education has allowed her to expand her resume by teaching and empowering youth from pre-K through high school students and later on the collegiate level that STEM education is doable, one test tube experiment at a time! She has taught High School Chemistry, Physical Science & Earth and Environmental Science. She is also a former Adult Basic Education and GED Instructor. On the Collegiate level, she teaches General Chemistry and Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
Professor T.K. the Chemist is a two-time award winner of The Excellence in Teaching Award as a Chemistry Professor (2013, 2017). In 2021, Professor T.K. the Chemist received the inaugural STEM Success Summit "Scientists of the Year" Award because she exemplifies extraordinary achievement in her respective field of science. Her work not only shows a level of expertise and success in chemistry, but also a commitment to outreach, encouraging diversity, amplifying underrepresented voices and giving back to the community.
She has written and developed science curriculum for teachers and other educational organizations. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the North Carolina Science Teachers Association, The American Chemical Society, The American Association of Chemistry Teachers and The Society for College Science Teachers.
